Our Experience & Background Is Extensive
Gems Of Travel has experience living in, being a nomad in, and traveling in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
We understand both sides – from “rich” Westerner to “living on a local wage of $250 / month” in Southeast Asia.
Our content is molded by our open-mindedness, frugality, motivation to discover opportunities, planning skills (financial and strategic), and ability to put ourselves in a local’s shoes.
We are not insulated with money – we’ve been emersed into the wild, and learned how to survive & thrive! You have to get a little more creative, put in more effort, and go further outside your comfort zone when you’re pressed for cash. It forces you to integrate.
The silver lining to this is that you learn the opportunities & possibilities that are hidden behind culture and a foreign language. We wish to share them with you, so that you may enjoy them, too. It’s taken us places and surpassed our expectations, no doubt.

We provide real-world solutions to pain points that Nomads / Retirees / Travelers experience moving, living, working, and adventuring abroad. You won’t find messy click-bait titles that distract & confuse you. What we ARE NOT: Gems Of Travel does not identify as an “influencer”. We do not do narratives, hyping-up, marketing fluff, or emotion-grabbing content with hints of drama to drive clicks & engagement. Click-bait titles are not “how we roll”, and we do not add flair and story telling (okay, maybe just a little bit sprinkled into an intro). All of this mentioned is entertainment, and none of this helps you uncover the realistic oportunites that Southeast Asia provides you … you need clear & concise info delivered in an organized manner.
Creation Of This Website
Many years ago, when we were researching how to Nomad / Retire / and Travel abroad in Southeast Asia and beyond, we noticed that there was very little information online supporting this topic. The information online was (and currently is) too fragmented, and scattered all over the internet.
After several years in Southeast Asia, our brains were stuffed full of knowledge and experience. We realized that we had an opportunity to help the world, by providing a website with everything you need to survive and thrive abroad.
So, one day, we started dumping everything from our minds into notes. There was a lot!
We then spent a lot of time organizing these notes into “buckets” (websites call these categories and subcategories) for the purpose of presenting information to you in an organized, logical, and concise way. There is a lot of information, and it was our goal for you to be able to make sense of it all – the big picture and all of the details.
We created titles for posts within each “bucket” and filled them in by writing the content over time. We pre-wrote over 140 posts before building the website. After building the website, the pre-written posts were copy/pasted and formatted into this website.
There was a lot of work that was done to polish-up this site, and work is ongoing. This includes new content that is soon to come! Stay tuned! However, we promise that our current content has everything you need to know. Of course, feel free to contact us with questions!
We want to emphasize that no AI (artificial intelligence) or chat bot was used for any part of GemsOfTravel.com. This includes written content and design of all parts of this website. Blood, sweat, and tears went into creating this website, taking over a year and half of research, preparation work, pre-writing all the posts, building a website, all administration tasks, and continual effort to polish-up many aspects of running an online business.
